Route

We have a new route from 2025, it will be updated as soon as possible. The route has been sanctioned by Transport Malta.

The route map will be updated as soon as possible.

For details of the route read below.

Unfortunately the route that had been used from at least 1979 to 2019 can no longer be used. After the pandemic, the route was changed but in most parts has remained the same. As this is a traditional race, with the route still being marked in Miles. Markers are not necessarily precise but may only be indicative.

The route for a 3rd time will be changed from 2025 and will hopefully be retained for a number of years.

The route in now longer, 11.58 miles (18.63Km)

The changes start from Blata l-Bajda.

The changes are due to the new road network at Msida, the safety of the over 1,200 participants and to cause the least inconvenience possible to motorists and public transport.

The route still starts from outside Mdina and finishes in Spinola, there is a drop of 195m from start to finish.

170m from the start, the route turns down Saqqajja hill, on to Triq L-Imdina heading to Attard and Hamrun along the main roads. The route then passes right through Hamrun and out to Blata L-Bajda.

The changes start here:

1. The route from Blatal-Bajda will no longer go down to Pieta from in front of Gattard house and the Ta’ Braxia cemetery. It with keep on heading towards Floriana and will go down to Pieta from Sa’ Maison, same as the Malta Marathon.

The benefit here is both for the safety of the participants and for the convenience of motorists and public transport. Participants will not need to cross Triq Marina to get to the other side of the road with traffic trying to get through. Traffic will not get stuck whilst participants are crossing.

2. The route will pass over the new low lying bridge that will span the new Msida inlet canal. The bridge replaces the old road and is part of the new road network.

3. The route will no longer go up and down again from the Ta’ Xbiex ramp.

Participants will no longer need to cross the road twice and no deviations for traffic and public transport will be required.

4. The route will pass through the Ta’ Xbiex marina, just as the Malta Marathon does.

Participants will no longer need to run against the traffic at the curve passing round the marina.

5. The route from Manoel Island will remain going on straight to Sliema Ferries and beyond till Qui Si Sana passing through the Tigne Point tunnel.

Participants will no longer need to cross the road at Manoel Island making it safer for them and traffic can proceed regularly.

The route from Qui Si Sana corner with Triq it-Torri to the finish in Spinola will remain the same.

The new route will allow participants to run for most of the way from Pieta to Balluta on pavements, most of which are new and reasonably wide. Participants are expected to use the pavements where available.

Start time

The M2S, will start from Mdina gate at 0700 and has a 2.5 hour time limit.

Finish line

Spinola bay, the finish line will close at 0945, San Michel water and Powerade will be provided at the finish.
