The Zurrieq Half Marathon (which originlly started as a 10Mile race), has been held since 1998 and until 2012 was organised by the Zurrieq Wolves Athletic Club. In 2013 whilst still retaining ownership of the event the ZWAC passed on the organisation of this event to the Malta Marathon Organisers. The MMO started off by changing the Half Marathon route and introducing a 10K besides taking the orgainsation of the event to another level. The positive result could be seen by the immediate increase in the number of participants.

Following Covid, all races have seen a drastic drop in race participation. The 2022 Zurrieq Half Marathon and 10K saw a combined participation number of 578 with 19 participants in the Kids Race, whilst the 2023 Zurrieq Half Marathon and 10K saw 730 finishers, apart from 56 finishers in the Kids Race. This is a substantial and positve increase.
